Have you ever wanted to walk in the footsteps of the Doughboys? To tread the earth where they gave their last full measure, or pay respects at their gravesites? To understand the pivotal moments of the Great War from the vantage point of those who fought it? Here is your chance to embark on an astounding, week-long, curated and guided tour that will offer this once-in-a-lifetime insight into World War I and its impact.
I have the privilege of serving as the board chair of the Doughboy Foundation – the nonprofit entity behind the nation’s new World War I Memorial in Washington DC and a continuing national commitment to “Keep Faith with the American Doughboy.” I also have the privilege of inviting you to join us on this meaningful journey to commemorate the heroism and bravery of our boys “over there” through an exceptional trip that we are sponsoring September 27-October 5, 2026. Just 25 spaces (on a first-come, first-served basis) are available on this exclusive, guided tour to the battlefields of France.
Our guided itinerary will take us to Flanders Field in Belgium, Ypres, Hamel, Bony, Aisne-Marne, the Meuse-Argonne, Verdun and Paris, where we will visit the Lafayette Escadrille Memorial. Along the way we will discover the WWI story of jazz, visit the Rainbow Division Memorial, recall the sacrifice of the Lost Battalion, explore Pershing’s headquarters, tour the Museum of the Great War in Meaux, home to one of the most extensive collections of World War I artifacts in Europe, and much more.
Our travel partner is Academic Travel Aboard – a respected, top-tier firm with whom I have traveled before – so I can confidently guarantee that participants will experience World War I in a deeply profound way – and from organizers who are the very best in the business. Our personal guide will be historian, author and professor Mitch Yockelson of the National Archives and Records Administration. ATA will handle all inquiries and make all arrangements (except for your individual travel to Belgium and from Paris). Hotel accommodations, many meals, airport transfers, gratuities, on-tour transportation and museum admissions are covered in the cost of the tour. The price is $8,995 per person double occupancy for this remarkable opportunity – though we are certain that the experience will be priceless.
Perhaps you have a family member who served during World War I. Maybe you want to learn more about a conflict that is often called America’s forgotten war. Or you may simply want to travel with fellow history enthusiasts who appreciate the amenities of this type of quality travel experience. One thing is certain: this trip will afford you a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to experience the Great War in an unforgettable, deeply resonant way. Please: keep faith with the American Doughboy and join us.
