The Story of a Rose is about creator Melissa Errico's great aunt Rose shown here who worked at the Brooklyn Navy Yard making uniforms for our Doughboys before she went on the star in the Follies of 1917. Great Aunt Rose was Melissa's inspiration to go into show business.

New York, (13 January 2026) – The Doughboy Foundation performing arts program took the next steps toward a national tour of The Story of a Rose; A Musical Reverie on the Great War here today.

The Foundation produced two presentations of the show starring Melissa Errico to participants for the annual Association of Performing Arts Professionals at New World Stages.

The five hundred seat theatre was filled twice with representatives of theatres that are considering programming for the months ahead, donors, and an ever increasing cadre of Doughboy supporters in greater New York.

Doughboy Foundation CEO Clair Sassin worked the four days of the show with Doughboy Foundation Founder Dan Dayton, extolling the importance of the show to theatre representatives from around the country.

The music director for the presentation was Boston-born Andy Ezrin who started playing the piano at age 10 and started performing professionally at 12.  He often accompanies Ms. Errico at other of her shows including the upcoming Valentine’s Day residency at New York’s Birdland Jazz Club.  Andy led a jazz band in its exploration of the Tedd Firth’s freshly arranged songs from the official AEF songbook.  The show’s reviews were superb.  Here is a link to reviews from the world premier.

Doughboy Foundation Founder Dan Dayton remarked: “I’m delighted that Americans all across our great nation will have the opportunity to learn about what it meant to live in the war years through the brilliance of this great work of art created by Melissa Errico”.
