World War I Encampment at the Manitowoc County Historical Society Museum and Pinecrest Village.

The event runs 10 a.m.-3 p.m. May 31 and June 1.

MANITOWOC – A World War I encampment will be featured at Manitowoc County Historical Society and Pinecrest Village from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. May 31 and June 1.

Here’s what to know about the event.

Visit camps of American, British, German, Russian and Ottoman nations at the WWI encampment.

The encampment will feature camps of American, British, German, Russian and Ottoman nations. Attendees can learn about their roles in the Great War.

Various activities are also scheduled for the weekend, including camp kitchens on the front, weaponry, the Red Cross and more.

Manitowoc County’s role in World War I will be featured during the WWI encampment.

Attendees can step into a display area focusing on Manitowoc County during World War I.

With a population of 45,000, Manitowoc County sent more than 2,300 sons to WWI, the historical society said.

Company H, Manitowoc’s unit in the Old Wisconsin National Guard, became Company H of the 127th infantry of the 32nd Division after being recruited and trained in Texas.

Meanwhile, the people of Manitowoc County were actively supporting the war effort through their time, resources and contributions from their factories, the historical society said.

With shipbuilding and aluminum industries, the county sent 12 ships abroad along with a steady supply of mess kits.
