Members of the 29th Division Association were welcomed by the Consenvoye mayor, André Dormois, four elected members of the municipal council, and sculptor Henri, Patrick Stein.
The 29th Division Association is leading the efforts to construct a monument to honor the contributions of the 79th, 29th, and 33rd Divisions to the great Meuse-Argonne Offensive. The Offensive was a key part of the overall Allied effort to end WWI attacks along the entire Front in Europe, leading to the defeat of Germany and the end of the war.

The monument will be prominently located in the town square of Consenvoye, near the banks of the Meuse River. The Association has partnered with the town of Consenvoye and commissioned Henri-Patrick Smith, an accomplished French sculptor, to produce the monument. The sculptor will use there blocks of Meuse stone to reproduce life-size images of the three American divisions and will be 5 m long and 2 m high.
The idea of erecting a monument dedicated to the sacrifices of the liberators was originally started in 1931. When the 29th Division Association learned of the original plans, they resurrected the mission and it will be dedicated on October 8, 2025, the date of the town’s liberation.
