The performance blends song and speech as Errico explores the often-overlooked era of World War I through an American perspective. The presentation is produced by The Doughboy Foundation to benefit America’s National World War I Memorial in Washington, D.C.

Additional sponsors include the Gary Sinise Foundation, established to support defenders, veterans, first responders and their families through various programs; the Pritzker Military Foundation; and the Diana Davis Spencer Foundation.

“The Story of a Rose” serves as both entertainment and reflection on a historically significant war. Errico brings personal resonance to the performance as a mother of three teenagers, the same age as many soldiers whose lives she commemorates.

Under the musical direction of jazz pianist Tedd Firth (Marilyn Maye, Bernadette Peters, Michael Feinstein) with his period ensemble, Errico will perform wartime songs of patriotism, protest, loss and longing. Broadway actor/musician George Abud (“Lempicka,” “The Untitled Unauthorized Hunter S. Thompson Musical,” “The Band’s Visit”) will assist in various onstage roles.

Throughout the performance, Errico shares the story of her aunt Rose, weaving family legend with historical context. “Music is the one force that can connect our private memories to our common history,” Errico notes. “Every time we sing their songs, the people of a lost time live again.”
