We the People: WWI biplane rebuilt in Long Island, NY

BISMARCK, N.D. (KFYR) – History is being restored on Long Island, New York, as a rare post-World War I biplane has arrived at the Cradle of Aviation Museum to be rebuilt.

The plane is a Curtis Oriole. It’s a biplane built by “Curtis Aircraft” around 1920. It’s one of just four known surviving Curtis Orioles, which were used to gather aerial footage for newsreels that were shown in movie theaters in the 1920’s and 30’s.

A team of volunteers will take about four years to restore the Oriole to its former glory, and the museum hopes to one day place it in a hangar in the museum.
