Doughboy Foundation bugler Wilson Childers performs at the August 14 promotion ceremony for new U.S. Army Brigadier General Ronald Iammartino Jr.

Attendees at the promotion ceremony on August 14, 2026 for the U.S. Army’s new Brigadier General Ronald Iammartino Jr. enjoyed an unexpected musical bonus as Doughboy Foundation bugler Wilson Childers performed music for the event in his World War I Doughboy uniform.

A West Point graduate (Class of 2003) and native of Staten Island, New York, Iammartino was nominated by President Donald J. Trump on March 27, 2026, for appointment to the grade of brigadier general in the U.S. Army, and his nomination was confirmed by the U.S. Senate on April 22, 2026. The promotion ceremony for Iammartino took place at at Fort McNair in Washington, DC.

Childers sounded Ruffles and Flourishes, the General’s March, the National Anthem, and the Army Song at the promotion ceremony, with many VIPs in attendance.

Iammartino was previously Commander, 2d Theater Signal Brigade, USAG Wiesbaden, Germany. The 2d TSB delivers integrated and interoperable theater communications and cyber capabilities to enable decision dominance across all levels and phases of war in support of combat forces and mission partners in Europe and Africa.

Other prior assignments include: G3, Director of Operations and Plans at Communications-Electronics Command; Commander, 50th Signal Battalion, Fort Bragg, NC; LNO to CJCS Communications Team and later FVEYs Coalition Engineering Manager, Joint Chiefs of Staff J6, Pentagon; S3 and later XO at 50th Signal Battalion, Fort Bragg, NC; Aide-de-Camp to the Army Materiel Command (AMC) Deputy Commanding General and later Special Assistant to the AMC Commanding General, Redstone Arsenal, Alabama and Camp Arifjan, Kuwait; XO to HQDA CIO/G6 AONS Director, Pentagon; Assistant to JCS J6 Director, Pentagon; Company Commander, USAG Fort Monmouth, NJ; S6 for 3-29 Field Artillery Battalion, Fort Carson, CO and Iraq; Platoon Leader, 1-44 ADA, Fort Carson, CO.

Iammartino’s civilian education includes: Ph.D. in Systems Engineering from George Washington University in Washington, DC; MA in Quantitative Methods (International Economics) from Columbia University in New York City; MBA in Finance from Monmouth University in NJ; B.S. from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, NY.

His military educationincludes: Army War College Fellow, Princeton University, Joint Professional Military Education II, Intermediate Level Education I & II; Signal Captain’s Career Course; Air Defense Artillery Short Range (SHORAD) Basic Course; US Army Airborne School.

Iammartino’s Military Awards and Badges include: the Bronze Star Medal, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Combat Action Badge, Parachutist Badge, and Joint Staff Identification Badge.
