Flight Sub-Lieutenant Reginald Warneford of the RNAS ’s No. 1 Squadron, flying a Morane-Saulnier L, destroys Zeppelin LZ 37. This victory is the first airship downed air-to-air combat by use of a bomb. The event occurs over Ghent, Belgium, as LZ 37 crashes in Sint-Amandsberg, Belgium, killing one person on the ground and all but one of the crew. Within 36 hours, Warneford receives the Victoria Cross for the action.
